Wednesday, October 21st, 2009: Owings Baffles St. Louis
Micah Owings was in command in his outing against the St. Louis Cardinals. He hurled the San Diego Padres to a 6-0 shutout victory, yielded 3 hits and chalked up 11 strikeouts and no walks.

"A complete game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."

To date this season, Owings has a record of 15 wins and 4 losses and a 1.34 ERA. He has appeared in 36 games and struck out 208 in 174.1 innings.
Tuesday, October 6th, 2009: Jose L. Garcia Out for 1-2 Weeks
Jose L. Garcia had to leave the Padres game against Philadelphia after suffering a finger blister while throwing a pitch. He will be out of the lineup at least 1-2 weeks. He told SION reporters, "I just felt a sharp pain when it happened. I knew there was something wrong."

In 2009, Garcia has a 10-8 mark in 25 starts with a 3.74 ERA. He has given up 134 hits in 137 innings, struck out 127 and issued 23 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .256 batting average against him.
Monday, October 5th, 2009: Coronado Is NL Batting Champ
Jose Coronado, the 23-year-old second baseman of the San Diego Padres, was officially crowned National League batting champion for 2009 today.

He batted .350 with 2 home runs and 68 RBIs while playing in 147 games.
