| Breaking News | | Friday, October 9th, 2009: Philip Hughes of the St. Louis Cardinals just toyed with the Arizona Diamondbacks today, blanking them 6-0. He was almost untouchable, baffling them on a 3-hit shutout with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"I'm sweating now because it's hot in here," Hughes said in the clubhouse after the game. "But it didn't even feel like I was sweating out there."
One of his teammates said it was easy to play behind him today. "It was like he's just playing with the hitters and doing whatever he wanted to do."
In the 2009 season Hughes has recorded a 21-5 mark. In 36 starts he has fanned 287 batters in 264 innings with a 2.01 ERA. | | Friday, September 25th, 2009: Grayson Bashes 5 Base Hits Luke Grayson told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Grayson of the Los Angeles (N) Dodgers did against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went to the plate 7 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Diamondbacks, who suffered a 10-8 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
L. Grayson singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 10th, struck out in the 12th and hit a two-run home run off W. Startup in the 14th.
