Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009: Cardinals Triumph in 2009 World Series
It was a hard fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, to the victors go the spoils: St. Louis got the Major League Baseball World Series trophy today with a 6-3 victory over Seattle at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals won their 1st championship after taking the series with the Mariners 4-3.

"They've got grit!" one fan told SION, "They know how to win when they have to. They're the League Champions!"

The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first place finish in the National League Central Division and a 105-57 won-loss record.
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009: Owings Baffles St. Louis
Micah Owings was in command in his outing against the St. Louis Cardinals. He hurled the San Diego Padres to a 6-0 shutout victory, yielded 3 hits and chalked up 11 strikeouts and no walks.

"A complete game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."

To date this season, Owings has a record of 15 wins and 4 losses and a 1.34 ERA. He has appeared in 36 games and struck out 208 in 174.1 innings.
Friday, October 9th, 2009:
Philip Hughes of the St. Louis Cardinals just toyed with the Arizona Diamondbacks today, blanking them 6-0. He was almost untouchable, baffling them on a 3-hit shutout with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"I'm sweating now because it's hot in here," Hughes said in the clubhouse after the game. "But it didn't even feel like I was sweating out there."

One of his teammates said it was easy to play behind him today. "It was like he's just playing with the hitters and doing whatever he wanted to do."

In the 2009 season Hughes has recorded a 21-5 mark. In 36 starts he has fanned 287 batters in 264 innings with a 2.01 ERA.
