 | Wednesday, September 9th, 2009: Elizabethton Wins Round 1 Crown The Elizabethton faithful were cheering in the streets and the Bluefield fans were crying in their beer -- The Twins won the Round 1. They clinched it by knocking off the Orioles 7-5 to take their 3rd Appalachian League crown. Elizabethton took the series 3-1. "This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press. "We just didn't play well enough to win," the Orioles manager lamented, "We just didn't make the big plays like they did." On the way to the Round 1 title Elizabethton compiled a 54-14 won-loss record and finished first in the West. |
