New York-Penn League News Article | |  | Saturday, September 26th, 2009: Oneonta Tigers Win Round 2 You could hear the cheering all over Oneonta as the Tigers secured the final out of a 5-2 win over the Aberdeen Iron Birds to capture the 2009 New York-Penn League Round 2 4-3. It was the 1st time in the team's history to win it.
"The Iron Birds are a good ballclub," said the winning skipper, "We had to play at our best to beat them."
"Anytime you make big plays, it changes the momentum of the game," the losing manager said. "The Tigers made 'em and we didn't -- end of story."
During the season the new champs compiled a 156-100 record in the Stedler and finished in first place in the standings. | |
