California League News Article | |  | Tuesday, September 11th, 2007: Bakersfield Crowned CAL Champions The Bakersfield faithful were cheering in the streets and the Inland Empire fans were crying in their beer -- The Blaze won the Round 1. They clinched it by knocking off the 66ers 8-2 to take their 1st California League crown. Bakersfield took the series 3-2.
"This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press.
"We just didn't play well enough to win," the 66ers manager lamented, "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."
On the way to the Round 1 title Bakersfield compiled a 78-62 won-loss record and finished second in the North Division. | |
