Monday, October 1st, 2007: Dante Brinkley Wins Best Bat Trophy
2007's top hitter in the California League is Dante Brinkley. He feasted on everything opposing pitchers offered, hitting .331 with 9 home runs to claim the prestigious Outstanding Hitter Award.

During the year he tallied 165 hits, 80 RBIs, and 82 runs scored.

This weekend the SBWA will host its annual awards dinner and all of the major winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.
Sunday, September 30th, 2007: Connecticut Wins CAL Outstanding Pitcher Award
SION has announced today that Alay Soler of the Connecticut Defenders is the recipient of this season's California League Outstanding Pitcher Award.

During this remarkable year he posted a 15 and 5 record in 24 starts. In 172.2 innings Soler allowed 128 hits and 49 walks while striking out 169 and compiling a fine 2.81 ERA.

For his fine season the SION Baseball Writers Association will present his trophy to him at the annual awards dinner this weekend.

Making the play is the mark of great defenders. Spearing a liner, diving in the hole or crashing headlong into the wall makes no difference to these awe-inspiring fielders. Magicians they sometimes appear to be, showing up out of nowhere to rob a batter of a hit and to turn a hit into an out.

Pitchers love 'em, batters curse 'em...and fans are sometimes speechless. These defensive wizards will collect their 2007 California League Glove Wizard Awards tonight:
