Eastern League News Article | | | Saturday, September 12th, 2009: Walker Socks It to Fisher Cats, Cracks 5 Hits 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book.
In the Seawolves 32-2 win over New Hampshire, Neil Walker was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Jerry Uht Park.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Walker delivered 5 hits in 7 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
N. Walker flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a three-run double in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, walked in the 9th and hit a three-run home run off A. Simpson in the 9th.
His current batting average stands at .263 and he has chalked up 5 home runs and 27 RBIs. | |
