Major League Baseball News Article | | | Monday, August 17th, 2009: Injury Takes Toll, Vargas Out 8 Months It took the Chicago (N) team doctor a while to realize it, but starting pitcher Jason Vargas won't simply play through a ruptured tricep tendon after he got hurt throwing a pitch in today's Astros-Cubs game. At first, it looked like Vargas might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 8 months. A spokesman for the club described the loss of Vargas as a blow, but was confident that he'd be back soon.
To date this season Vargas is 9-11 with 25 starts and an ERA of 4.49 with 152 strikeouts in 148.1 innings. | |
